Pleasant Prairie's Local Mosquito & Tick Control
Pleasant Prairie sits on one of the wettest stretches of ground in the region. Chiwaukee Prairie and the lake plain south of it form a single protected wetland system that runs across the state line to Illinois Beach State Park, and the Des Plaines River winds through the west side of the village. That same lake-plain country continues south into Lake County, Illinois, where we have worked since 2003.
We are a family-owned company based in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, and more than 1,000 families have trusted us with their yards. Every treatment carries our 10-day guarantee: if mosquitoes come back inside 10 days, we come back at no charge. Our barrier treatment is derived from chrysanthemum flowers and delivers roughly 90% mosquito knockdown.
Residential Mosquito & Tick Control in Pleasant Prairie
Mosquitoes spend the day resting, not flying. Our residential program treats those resting areas: shaded ground cover, the undersides of leaves, dense shrub beds, fence lines and the damp, shaded corners of a yard. The barrier treatment kills on contact and leaves a residual that keeps working between visits.
Tick control is a separate product applied on the same visit. Ticks wait in different places than mosquitoes rest, so our tick program targets leaf litter, tall grass at the property line, and the woodland or prairie edge where a mowed yard stops. During mosquito season, tick treatment is included with your mosquito service at no extra charge.
Our treatment is designed with your family and pets in mind. It is odorless once dry, and once it has dried, usually within an hour, your yard is ready to enjoy again. We also offer an organic option.
Commercial Mosquito & Tick Control in Pleasant Prairie
We also treat commercial grounds in the village, including properties with outdoor seating, event space, and landscaping that borders park or trail land. For larger grounds we offer ULV applications, and day or night fogging ahead of outdoor events. Scheduling runs on an automatic cycle, with a heads-up before each visit. Our commercial mosquito control serves:
- Parks
- Golf Courses
- Corporate Campuses
- Summer Camps
- Wedding Venues
- Horse Farms
- HOAs & Condo Associations
- Hotels and Resorts
- Event Centers
- Community Centers
- Any Commercial Property
Why Pleasant Prairie Yards Hold Mosquitoes
Wet prairie does not drain the way a lawn does. After a rain, the low ground around Chiwaukee Prairie and the lake plain holds shallow standing water for days, and shallow, still water is exactly where mosquitoes lay their eggs. Three settings make up most of what we treat in the village:
- Lake-plain and prairie-edge yards. Homes near Chiwaukee Prairie's 485 acres sit beside habitat that keeps producing mosquitoes all season. These are usually on a weekly plan.
- Yards near Prairie Springs Park. The park covers more than 900 acres, including Lake Andrea, a 110-acre spring-fed lake, and the Jerome Creek Preserve. Open water is not the problem; the marshy margins, the Des Plaines floodplain along the Hackbarth Trail and the shaded shoreline growth are.
- Open subdivision lots away from the water, where our bi-weekly plan usually keeps up.
Ticks Wake Up Before Mosquitoes Do
Blacklegged ticks become active once temperatures reach about 40°F, so in Pleasant Prairie they can be out on warm days in late winter, weeks before the first mosquito. The nymphal stage, which is small enough to miss and the stage most often linked to tick-borne illness in people, peaks in late spring. Here is why 40°F weather means ticks are already active.
The CDC's advice on preventing tick-borne disease comes down to a few habits: cut back the habitat, check yourself and your pets after time outdoors, and treat the edges where ticks actually wait. Because our tick program is its own product on its own schedule, it can start before mosquito season opens.
When Our Season Runs
Our mosquito season runs April 15 through October 15, in Pleasant Prairie the same as everywhere else we work. Tick service follows its own, longer schedule, and during mosquito season tick treatment is included with your mosquito service at no extra charge.
Book before the season opens if you can. The first breeding cycle of the year is the easiest one to break, and a yard treated from the start never builds the population that a mid-summer start has to knock back.
Choose the plan that fits your yard: a weekly or bi-weekly program, a one-time event spray for a graduation or backyard party, or a custom schedule built around your property.
Treating Next to Protected Prairie
Chiwaukee Prairie is one of the most species-rich prairies in Wisconsin, with more than 400 native plant species, and it is a State Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark. Living next to it is a reason to be careful, and we are. We apply to resting surfaces rather than to flowering plants, and we avoid blooms. Tell us where your pollinator plantings are and we will work around them.
We will also tell you what a treatment will not do. A barrier treatment cuts the mosquito population on your property; it does not seal it off, and wet ground next door will keep producing mosquitoes. That is why prairie-edge yards are on a shorter cycle.
Pleasant Prairie is part of our Kenosha County service area, alongside Kenosha, and a short drive from the Lake County, Illinois towns we have served for more than two decades. See all the areas we serve.

Pleasant Prairie Mosquito Control FAQ
Do your treatments cover ticks as well as mosquitoes?
Yes, in the same visit, with a separate product for each. Mosquitoes and ticks rest in different parts of a yard, so we treat both areas on one trip. During mosquito season, tick treatment is included at no extra charge.
When should I start mosquito and tick treatments in Pleasant Prairie?
Tick treatment can begin before mosquito season, because blacklegged ticks become active around 40°F. Our mosquito season runs April 15 through October 15. Many customers start tick service early and add mosquito service when the season opens.
My yard backs onto Chiwaukee Prairie or wetland. Can you still treat it?
Yes. We treat your property, not the protected land, and focus on the edge where your yard meets it, which is where mosquitoes rest and ticks wait. Let us know about any pollinator plantings when you book.
Is the treatment family- and pet-friendly?
Our barrier treatment is derived from chrysanthemum flowers and designed with your family and pets in mind. It is odorless once dry, and once it has dried, usually within an hour, your yard is ready to enjoy again. We also offer an organic option.
What if mosquitoes come back after a treatment?
We come back at no charge within the 10-day guarantee period.
